Nadal wins another title 29th July 2008
Spanish tennis hero Rafael Nadal has won another tournament and another trophy to add to his sizable collection.

The Majorcan came out on top in the Rogers Cup in Toronto this week to pick up his fifth straight tournament trophy, with this year's Wimbledon and French Open titles already bagged in recent weeks.

Unbeaten on any surface for several months, Nadal is close to becoming the official world number one player for the first time in his short but illustrious career.

Tennis in Spain has been in good shape since Nadal rose to prominence but this summer has also been one to remember for the football team, which won the European Championships and cyclist Carlos Sastre, who won the Tour de France last week.

Spain sees summer of sporting glory continue 29th July 2008
Spain has seen its summer of sporting glory continue with the news that Carlos Sastre came in ahead of the pack at this year's Tour de France.

The event is widely recognised as the most prestigious cycling event in the world and Sastre recently became the seventh Spaniard to win it.

His success follows hot on the heels of those of the Spanish national football team at the European Championships and tennis superstar Rafael Nadal in the final of men's singles at Wimbledon.

The sporting successes of Spain this year may come as little surprise to those who have sampled the high-quality facilities available at the La Manga Club on the Mediterranean coast.

Caution urged with daredevil pursuits abroad 21st July 2008
British holidaymakers have been urged to exercise a degree of caution when they set off overseas this summer in order to avoid incurring considerable costs.

According to research by Moneysupermarket.com, more one-third of holidaymakers form the UK indulge in some sort of "daredevil" activity while overseas and in one-eighth of these instances the individual involved has no travel insurance cover.

The findings from the price comparison firm could encourage more Britons to take up the relatively low-risk option of enjoying tennis holidays in Spain or golf holidays on the Mediterranean coast.

Tennis champ offers summer holiday tips 11th July 2008
A former tennis champion has offered her insights into the burgeoning credit crisis and the impact it will have on summer holidays abroad.

According to Annabel Croft, winner of the Wimbledon and Australian Open girls' tournaments in 1984 and former presenter of BBC show Treasure Hunt, 75 per cent of families are concerned about the cost of holiday entertainment due to the credit crunch.

She added that this summer, parents should try to get their children motivated and to introduce them to tennis and other sports and activities.

"Not everybody in my family likes the same sport but it's a chance to get everyone involved in different sports and particularly if the weather is going to be so awful," she commented.

Go easy on the drink, sporty holidaymakers warned 27th June 2008
Tourists who enjoy a little sports on holiday have been warned not to indulge their passions after having a few drinks.

In the hot summer sun of La Manga, a refreshing alcoholic drink might be perfect for a leisurely lunchtime - but it is not the best preparation for a game of tennis, Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society (Meas) has suggested.

The group warned that playing any sports while under the influence of alcohol can heighten the risk of injury.

"When people head off on holidays they often do not consider the possible affects a cocktail of sun and alcohol can have on them," said Fionnuala Sheehan, chief executive of Meas.
