With Summer here and Spanish sunshine beckoning, the five-star holiday resort of La Manga is a tempting prospect for a luxury break on the Med.
Families, sports-enthusiasts and sun-seekers are faced with a 1,400 acre holiday-maker's paradise, offering world-class sports and spa facilities, exquisite restaurants, children's holiday clubs and a host of bars, pools and beautiful views.
An array of luxury hotel accommodation and comfortable Spanish villas provide the ideal base from which to enjoy a truly five-star holiday.
And now that more than one in three people are looking for "active holidays," according to the Lonely Planet Guide's 'Travellers' Pulse' survey, the range of activities on offer at La Manga looks better than ever.
The resort complex offers three magnificent golf courses and one of Spain's best open air tennis centres, which has hosted several prestigious events, including the Davis Cup, the Fed Cup and a number of ATP tournaments.
Opportunities to go horse-riding are also available and visitors can explore the la Manga peninsula (literally "the sleeve") from the resort it takes its name. This small spur of land divides the azure blue of the Mediterranean from Mar Menor sea inlet and is a natural playground for divers, swimmers and other water-sports enthusiasts.
La Manga has also been voted "Europe's Leading Golf Resort" three times in the past five years and is "arguably the best club in not only Murcia but in Europe generally", according to Carly Barnes, of LLB International.
"It is also located in what is considered to be one of the healthiest spots in Europe," she added. The nearby Mar Menor, Europe's largest salt-water lagoon is famous for the health benefits of its clear blue waters. These are rich in iodine and salt and are believed to offer a number of beneficial health properties.
Those looking for a little therapeutic pampering and relaxation can also revitalise their mind and body with the range of deluxe spa treatments including saunas, steam rooms and jacuzzis on offer at La Manga.
The resort is also ideal for families who are looking to get away from it all and keep the children amused at the same time. Mark Hodson of the Times describes La Manga as "the ne plus ultra of family sporting holiday destinations."
"It's a place where you can bond with your teenagers over golf or tennis; or, if they're really keen to hone their ball skills, they can sign up for an academy course."
Courses available include five-day football, tennis, rugby and golf tutorials, run by English-speaking coaches. Other activities that may appeal both to children and teenagers include mountain-biking, snorkelling, water-skiing and scuba-diving.
After dinner, the club offers discos and karaoke, as well as a Games Zone, open until after midnight. Here, kids can play Xbox games, table football, pinball and table tennis. Plenty to keep every member of the family occupied!
In the unlikely event that visitors should ever tire of the sheer variety of things to do at the La Manga Club, then the lush, fertile countryside of the huerta, or 'garden' of Murcia is close by. This is the verdant and well-watered region that cradles the nearby city of Murcia, and visitors interested in the history and culture of the region can explore the provincial capital, and wander around the beautiful cathedral and nineteenth century architecture.
La Manga Club is not far from Alicante and Murcia airports, and is just a short flight from the UK.
